Aurora Systems Emerges as SaaS ETRM Supplier in Europe

New E/CTRM vendors continue to emerge. Often this is because people from the industry with experience believe that there is a better way, and they want to utilize new technologies to create that vision, so they start new entities. Aurora Systems is such a vendor.

Founded in 2018, Aurora Systems comprises a team of around a dozen experienced people who have built a SaaS ETRM solution and a price portal offering. It already has eleven customers using its software, Bjarne Johansen told me recently. “We focus on the mid-tier market,” he said. “Large consumers, renewable energy firms and mid-tier marketers and utilities. This market is often using expensive, older, rigid solutions and looking for something more agile.”

Aurora offers a cloud native SaaS solution that is modular with a microservices architecture. It can be deployed in an ecosystem with homegrown modules and/or third-party modules, he told me. “We designed the solution to be user friendly and extremely flexible,” he said. It is deployed single tenanted and covers power, natural gas, various emissions certificates and allowables as well as multiple currencies. With both physical and financial trade coverage, he told me. Currently, its customers are in Scandinavia and Europe.

In terms of differentiators, Bjarne tells me that it is flexible and configurable and is easy to adapt to the reporting needs of each customer. “It’s easy to set up new environments or scale up environments,” he said. Aurora Systems also places a lot of emphasis on automated testing – unit, regression and integration testing is all heavily automated. “We are able to make changes extremely quickly and can deliver enhancements in a week or so fully tested and ready to go,” he claimed.

Bjarne says its customers are happy and provide positive feedback. It has replaced many on house homegrown solutions, Excel-based solutions as well as some legacy solutions at customer sites and he feels the customer satisfaction is a major plus for the firm.

I recently also interviewed Bjarne for a CTRMRadio podcast that will be released shortly focusing on SaaS-based E/CTRM solutions and also featuring interviews with Saurabh Goyal of Phlo Systems and Dmitry Mychalchuk of Graintrack.
