Unicorn: End-to-End Software Solutions for the Modern Energy Value Chain
In today’s software landscape, it is rare to find a vendor that supports the entire value chain of a modern energy system, from production management and forecasting to trading, market- and grid management, flexibility aggregation. Unicorn is one such company. It delivers solutions not only for traders and utilities but also for TSOs, retailers, and prosumers.
For energy companies, Unicorn’s product Lancelot covers front, middle, and back-office functions, as well as data management, production and consumption forecasting, flexibility management, and generation dispatching and market communication.
Founded in 1990 and headquartered in Prague, Unicorn operates in 28 countries across multiple industries. The energy domain accounts for 40% of the company’s turnover, with Damas serving TSOs and Lancelot serving energy traders, producers, and retailers. The solutions can be delivered either as SaaS or on-premises, support REST API integration and market communication, and include a workspace functioning as an “online Excel,” where users can create custom data series and perform calculations for decision-making.
From a renewable energy perspective, Lancelot supports all forms of renewable production, including wind, solar, and battery storage, along with analytics and decision-support functions. Lancelot GDS, a solution for power producers, enables flexibility management, optimal resource utilization, and asset valuation. It helps energy traders provide ancillary services and trade flexible products. Analytical capabilities of the solution are delivered through a specialized partner solution rather than in-house development.
Forecasting functionality comes from Lancelot FMS (Forecasting Management System), a self-learning, AI-based real-time solution for forecasting consumption and production. The platform also includes a Data Hub for real-time data management, serving as the foundation for market data analytics.
